If you want to know that you have a home in heaven there are four things that you need to know, and four things that need to take place.
The FIRST THING that you need to know is that you CAN KNOW that you can have a home in heaven.
I John 5:13 - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
The next thing that you need to know is that is that we have sinned against God. According to the verse below where it say "all have sinned," would that make me a sinner?
- [YES]
Would that make you a sinner?
- [YES]
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
The third thing to know is that the wages of our sin is death. Just as when you work a job and receive wages, the wages for our sin is death. The word death means separation. In the Bible there are two types of death, physical and spiritual. When a person physically dies their soul is separated from their body, because death means separation. So when a person dies spiritually, their soul is separated from God for all eternity in a place called the lake of fire.
Romans 6:23a - For the wages of sin is death;...So, what the Bible is teaching us is, that because of our sin, we deserve to spend eternity separated from God in the lake of fire. But, I’m glad the story doesn’t stop there.
The last thing to know is that although we are sinners, Jesus died for us. I’m sure that at some point you have heard that over 2,000 years ago, Jesus, the Son of God, died on a cruel cross outside of Jerusalem for sinners like me and you. It was there He took our place, suffered, bled and died, which paid our sin debt for us. Now we do not have to go to the lake of fire.
Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
You must believe ON the Lord not just IN the Lord. I can believe that a chair can hold me up, but I am not believing ON the chair until I actually rest my weight on it. Likewise, a lot of people believe in the Lord but never trust their soul to Him for salvation.
Acts 16:31 - And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
The second thing that needs to take place is that you must repent. To repent is a willingness to turn from your sin and turn to the Saviour for forgiveness.
Luke 13:3 - I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Then, you must personally receive the Lord. Although Jesus died for the whole world, the whole world will not go to heaven, only those that personally receive Him. The way to receive him is to believe on his name.
John 1:12 - But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
You receive Him by calling upon Him or praying. I’m sure that there have been times that you have prayed. What the Scriptures are teaching is that we must go to the Lord in prayer and admit to Him what you have realized from the Bible. Acknowledge to Him that you are a sinner who deserves the lake of fire, but you know that Jesus died for your sins. Tell him you are willing to turn from your sin and turn to Him, and ask Him to save your soul.
Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
I John 5:11-12 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not lifeIn the world there are two groups of people, those who have the Son and those who do not have the Son. In which of these groups are you now? - Those that have the SonAnd, those that have the Son have what?- Life, eternal lifeWho said that?
You need a Bible, God’s Holy Word. Not all Bibles at a “Christian Bookstore“ are the same. You need to get a King James Bible, it is the Word Of God. There are many, many reasons why this is true, but for now, early in your Christian life the Lord will enable you to understand it.
Then you need to read God’s Word every day.I Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Just as milk is necessary for a child to grow, we need the Word Of God to grow as a Christian.
It is recommended for new Christians to begin reading in the New Testament. You will identify and understand it a bit easier at the beginning of your walk with God.
Just as not all Bibles are the same, not all churches are the same. Scripture teaches us that not all churches are recognized by the Lord, so you should find an Independent Baptist Church in the area where you live. Let the Pastor know that you have just recently received Christ.
You should pray to God every day. Prayer is you talking to God. Prayer is asking the Lord for what you desire while being thankful to Him.Phl 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
Once you have found a church, the next step of obedience for a Christian is to be baptized. Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:...
1. That you got saved. Matt. 10:32 - Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
2. That they need to be saved.Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be WITNESSES unto me…
